Record Collecting for Girls: A Must Read For Any Female Music Lover

Record Collecting for Girls by Courtney E. Smith is an easy, fun, interesting read for anyone interested in the music industry, recording artists, or just music in general. Throughout the book Courtney Smith uses her experience as a former MTV music programmer to guide readers through the art of collecting music. By reading her analysis of different artists and songs readers can gain a clearer look into their own record collection as well as the record collection of potential mates.
A key part that makes this book interesting are the playlists found at the end of each chapter. Throughout Smith’s book she talks about several artists both obscure and mainstream. She gives us a tour of her own personal record collection and gives us the stories and people who influenced her to add the songs to her collection. These playlists help the reader to remember all the music they read about so they can be easily looked up and listened to.
This book gives readers everything. There’s some history of girl rock bands in the beginning, a complete discussion of what it means to be a fan of the smiths, and even a discussion about the difference between wives and groupies (with references to some of the most famous of the two).
Every music enthusiast and fan should check out this book when it hits book shelves in September.
